Lake Day (Very Politely)

Lucy visits the lake and keeps her paws mostly dry, thank you very much.

We’d hoped a lake trip might finally convince her that water isn’t the enemy. The results were… mixed, but polite. She approved of the shoreline. She approved of the sniffing opportunities along the shoreline. She did not approve of anything past the point where the water reached her ankles, and made her opinion known with a very dignified retreat every time a wave got ambitious.

Still, progress is progress — by the end of the afternoon she’d waded in far enough to properly soak her paws, which for Lucy counts as a full aquatic adventure. She spent the ride home curled up in a sandy, sun-warmed heap, thoroughly pleased with herself.

Lake day essentials

• Towels. So many towels.
• A shaded spot for the inevitable mid-afternoon nap
• Zero expectations of actual swimming

Baby steps toward becoming a water dog. We’ll take it.
